Excursion

Tonight I took part in an excursion organized by the women's group here in Jeppo - Jeposmettona. We went to "Purmo", a village about 30 kms away to have a 2-3 hour walk and then have dinner together. When we got there I realized we were supposed to walk 14 kilometers, and started having second thoughts. I haven't had much possibility to exercise since D was born, there simply doesn't seem to be time. But I thought I could manage if we took it easy (there were six of us). Unfortunately the rest were in good shape, used to long walks, so they took off like ... well-trained people (couldn't think of a suitable animal or word: antilopes/cheetas? ...but walking).
Shortly after this, I realized I had to throw in the towel. The others were just speeding away, there was no time for taking photos, having a sip of water, listening to the birds.....I was breaking into a sweat and we hadn't even come halfway yet. So when the path joined a road that seemed to go back, I decided to go back, otherwise the walk would have become an endless struggle, instead of a nice break from responsibilities and tasks. It turned out to be a good decision, when the others trotted away, I tried a small road that lead into a beautiful forest, sat down on a rock, had a banana and just enjoyed the birds singing and the smell of spring. No rushing anywhere, instead catching up with myself.

Ummmm, here I could enjoy the smell of fresh wood...and shortly afterwards there was a field full of feeding swans in the distance.

After this I slowly made my way

back to the restaurant where we had started from. All in all I guess I walked about 6-7 kilometers, which for a "normal" person isn´t very far, but for me at this moment - in the shape I'm in - is a rather long walk. But I recovered while I waited for the others to get back - for an hour I sat engulfed in a gossip magazine, with a glass of wine (a luxury to have an hour of idle time!). Then we had a nice meal together...and I had (I think) my first Irish coffee since D came into my life :). So even if the walk began badly for me, the whole event became a positive one. Tomorrow I need to go get my car from the center of the village ;).

ps. lots of wildlife in the woods between Jeppo and Purmo - on the way there I saw an elk with its small calf on a field and on the way back there were at least three rabbits crossing the road in front of the car and many big birds - but there was no way of telling the species in the semidarkness.

Positivt!

My day

I didn't sleep well last night - mummy eventually lifted me into her bed, where I slept a bit calmer. But I found it a bit hard to wake up in the morning, even if it was my birthday.

I really liked my first present for the day, which had arrived by mail - but unfortunately mummy wasn't very good at capturing it on camera (it's on my head).

Mummy seemed to be very proud to be able to give me my first bike. She said she had bought it at a fleemarket already last fall and hidden it meanwhile. I guess I'm still a bit too young for it, but if mummy works hard, maybe I will learn to ride it this summer. By the way, she is not good at photoshop, but says since this is a blog with a familytheme, she needed to try to do something about the photo. I just thought it was funny that you could see her breasts.

My babysitter, her mum and sister, surprised us with a great birthdaygift - a thing to dig in the sand with. Mummy seemed particularly pleased, I suspect she wants me to stay put in the sandbox and not throw showels and sand into her pond, stepping on all kinds of flowers on the way. But I think it's her own fault, why did she plant them there?! There should be a paved path instead.

After lunch we took the Italian lady to the airport. I fell asleep in the car going there, but wanted to see the big car with wings, or was it a king-king, at the "airport" that my mother called it? Anyway, I woke up and we watched it take off into the sky. I thought that looked funny, but when it disappeared I became sad. When we got back home, mummy wanted me to sleep, but I didn't. But it was nice to relax in front of the video and cool down with watching Winnie the Pooh celebrate Xmas.
I soon gathered my strength though, but mummy seemed a bit withered. But at least she had the strength to light a fire in the fireplace, even if is very warm upstairs, she and grandma feel a bit chilly downstairs, even in the summer.

In the evening I had a nice time, although I was a bit tired and not at my very best. But I started to relax when I could understand everything everyone was saying, and I seemed to be number one. I thought it was very exciting to have candles on my cake, but I was wondering if we should get in touch with Fireman Sam, just in case. In the end I blew out the candles together with mummy. My guests and (mainly) my mummy ate the cake (I think she should go on a diet, she is complaining she can't fit into her clothes from last summer - no surprise, the way she eats all kinds of goodies without giving to me!!) , I preferred my salty ricecakes, and then I just concentrated on my gifts for the rest of the evening. At bedtime I felt like being close to mummy, so I climbed back into her bed and fell asleep there (I'm sleep-writing this...).

Terrible 2s?

I think this photo illustrates very well the mood D's been in for the past days. I think it partly has to do with the fact that there have been a lot of activities, his routines have not been followed, and I have been paying attention to someone else than him. On Friday we took my mother to see her friend at her summercottage, on the way we stopped at a shop + café. For the first time I really hated being with him. At the door they had a kind of spaceship for kids. D wanted of course to sit in it. None of us had the coin required to make it work, so I thought we might as well get on with our shopping and lunch. Now afterwards I think I forgot to tell him about this, I just shortly said " we have to go" and pulled him out of it. The result: kicking and screaming for a looong time afterwards. I walked with him through a corridor to the café, with people staring and his screams echoing between the tables once we got there. Of course he refused to sit down and sweat was beginning to break out for me. A nice old man came to offer him a biscuit, but if possible, he just kicked and screamed even more :(. Finally I had to take him outside, and there he slowly began to calm down. But he was already exhausted at that point, I just managed to get a few spoons of food into him. In the shoeshop I had to try shoes on with the speed of lightning (almost...), I really HAD to get him some shoes, since summerweather came so suddenly, I hadn't realized he didn't have any summershoes, so he desperately needed new ones. We also saw a couple we knew, with a son that also throws tantrums now and then - they wished me welcome to the club :(.

Best first of May, maybe ever :)

Chicca arrives, welcoming committee behind the glass :)

Chicca immediately gets to know the locals...

Normally first of May is a sunny, but rather chilly day. This year I think most people were surprised in the morning by the fact that the temperature had risen by more than 10 degrees from the day before - in the daytime it was over +20 degrees!! Summer!!!! In the morning we went to Nykarleby to hear the band play. In the daytime we went to a small café only open in the summer - it has wonderful old paintings on the walls.

Then we went to a small village that organizes programme every first of May- and they have a museumtrain that you can ride. It was really exciting for D that kept speaking about "king, king" I couldn't understand what it was at first, but then realized it is the sound at the lights at the traincrossing near our house when a train comes :). So train=king, king.

I was really glad when we were invited for a traditional Finnish summermeal at a friend's "summercottage" - grilled sausage and sallad. Since life at our house normally is very quite, since it's just my mother, me and
D, I love being in gatherings like this - with people that sit together and talk and laugh - and D also had company his own age. After the nice dinner we went for a walk to some sandpits to look at the water :)

The best show on first of May ve've seen for a long time :) (sigh, it's very difficult/almost impossible to get the photos where you want them, or the text in the right place, can't struggle with that anymore, I have a small one getting frustrated, and a guest waiting for dinner - more next time!)
