Trip to Tirmo

A bit more than a week ago, me and D went on a trip to the very south of Finland to see a dear friend of mine. We took the train to Helsinki and went by metro eastward- so the beginning was very exciting was D. Then K drove us to the archipelago south of the town Porvoo. K really took good care of us, the weather was good as well. On Friday we were invited to an old classmates' - she had also invited another classmate of ours, so it turned out I saw four of them during the weekend, we studied tourism for two years in Pietarsaari 25 years ago! It's amazing that so many of us still keep in touch (I think we were 15 in all)! D was so happy to have kids to play with and I felt proud of having such a big son that could entertain himself, while mummy talked to her friends - 8-year old O took him under her wings, though, which helped a lot and when we were supposed to leave D cried a river :(. Here snapshots of the days through D:

On Saturday another good friend of ours arrived and even if D was a bit cranky during the day, since he didn't take his normal nap, he fell asleep early so I could have a nice dinner with my friends :). Lovely weekend!! Such a shame my friends live so far away - but I've managed to see them twice already this year, which is great.

On Sunday we also went to a beach nearby on an island - the ferry was of course exciting (for both mother and son :).

I think D looks so cute here :):

I think K will hate me for posting this next photo, but I think it's such a funny one - and showing the great food we enjoyed on Saturday evening.

Me and K (tack K för en härlig resa, den perfekta värdinnan
- med härlig mat, dryck och foton :)

What else did we do?

At the beginning of August we went to the cirkus with my friend T and her daughter L. I haven't been to a circus since a schooltrip to St Petersburg 25 years ago, I think :). For D it was the very first time. Unfortunately he had a bit of a temperature in the morning and I wasn't sure we could go, but after he took a 2,5 hour nap in the afternoon I felt he was ok enough (I had bought the tickets in advance :(. We had row one, so I was looking forward to getting a lot of great photos, but row one turned out to be rwo three :( - there were two rows before us and the "path"... The lighting was difficult anyway and I thought it was ok where we were, I wouldn't have liked to be pulled up on "stage" to take part in the different acts...It was great fun, though, D's favorite was a clown that climbed a lot of chairs. He was very upset that I hadn't taken any photos of any of the clowns... I liked the animals and lovely ladies in beautiful dresses. They also had a bit of a freakshow - a guy that could turn around his shoulders in their sockets, I watched it gaping, looked really awful!

When we have been watching photos with D he has often asked "missä mamma?" (he uses the Finnish word for "where" all the time, even if he mostly speaks Swedish now). Since I'm mostly the one holding the camera and also have a tendency to very seldom be seen in other people's photos, there are not that many of me. But towards the end of the summer friends of mine have taken pictures of us, which I'm really grateful for. This is one of my favorites - by the wall to our old "barn" (pls Julie - what is the word for the building where you keep cattle...?). We're sitting on the soil that was dug out and carried outside in the winter from underneath the old floor in the livingroom. D loves to "work" on the pile, I'm a bit less excited about it - not exactly a clean place to play....but the most important thing is that he is happy :).

We also went for a few bikerides. I even tried some jogging a few mornings and of course did a lot of qigong during the camp and have been continuing it a bit at home as well. This is why I'm a bit surprised that I caught a big flu first thing when the routines were setting in. I know I was pushing it a bit with all the activities, but I was so happy to be able to do such a lot of things this summer - now I have a best buddy to share things with :) and I know that when the autumn comes and I'm supposed to start doing more work, there is no time or energy for much else. So I guess it was a bit of a psychological or protest flu: "don't want to give up on all the fun". D's been away at his dad's this weekend, which was really good. I've been trying to rest, but I still don't feel well, I still have a headache and runny nose :(. Have to go to bed for a few hours before D comes home and hope that I will feel ok tomorrow.

Berries!

Väl påklädd, men ändå.

Summer and water :)

I've spent most of my time on Facebook this summer - more reciprocity there (wow, did I remember that word correctly...?!). But little by little I'll post some photos from the past weeks here.

In the spa Tropiclandia in Vaasa

This summer has been a rather good one - very warm days and showers in between. We've visited some sandpits here in Jeppo every now and then - unfortunately the water has been rather cold, it's the groundwater that rises up. I've dipped myself a few times there, but to call it "swimming" is exaggerated...D is also like me, he prefers warmer water, but had fun with some girlfriends anyway :)

Startproblem

Farmers' exhibition

I've been a bit out of balance since Gusta died and haven't felt good to be home. On Saturday we went to see my mother's cousin, who lives in a place called Kurikka, one and a half hours away. On Sunday I decided to go see animals at the farmers' exhibition in Kokkola. D seemed to be more interested in the machinery, but the cute calves were to his liking as well :). I was happy to see alpackas, highland cows and horses - but was quite amazed by the size of the bulls. It rained twice but it was warm, so that was no problem.
Yesterday I was supposed to begin writing again but motivation is low - the paper that I write my monthly column to didn't pay me for the two columns in June. Sucks at this time when I have so little income. And it's warm and rather humid to be Finland, not the greatest weather to stay in by the computer. Today a nice man brought us blueberries, I took a pause in cleaning them, in the afternoon we're taking my mother for her massage and will visit relatives at the same time. Tomorrow is my jobinterview, looking forward to that! Thursday we're off with D by train to Helsinki and from there to see a really good friend of mine - that'll be really nice!! So I will probably have a pause here until next week.
